Performance
Subaru's horizontally opposed 2.5-liter four-cylinder BOXER engine with dual overhead cams and 16 valves with direct-injection technology comes standard in the lower four models. Engineers paired this engine with the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. This means the powertrain produces 182 horsepower, 176 lb-ft of torque, and tows 2,700 pounds.
The higher trims feature a 2.4-liter BOXER inter-cooled turbocharged engine, dual overhead cams, 16 valves with direct injection, and a dual active valve control system. Subaru mates this engine with the same CVT to put out an impressive 260 horsepower, 277 lb-ft of torque, and a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
You get Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system and Hill Descent Control no matter which trims you choose. In addition, an X-Mode intelligently sends torque to the wheels with the most grip for enhanced traction on low-friction surfaces. The Onyx Edition XT trim level has a multi-function X-Mode that adds drive modes for Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud. On the Wilderness model, your X-Mode adds the drive modes, plus it gives you low and medium-to-high-speed functions.
A Vehicle Dynamics Control system continuously monitors wheel spin, yaw rate, steering angle, brake pressure, and lateral G-forces. When this system detects a variance from your intended path, it activates braking and engine torque to help return your Outback to its proper direction.
EyeSight Driver-Assist Technology
Now your Outback comes with Subaru's advanced EyeSight Driver-Assist Technology to elevate your driving experience and help keep you safe. The suite includes advanced adaptive cruise control, which high-tech sensors to keep you at a predetermined following distance and speed limit to the vehicle ahead. When the car in front slows, the system automatically slows you down, even to a complete stop. The system returns you to your preset speed and distance when the way forward clears. This system helps reduce driver fatigue due to constant braking and acceleration.
Lane centering, lane keep assist, and lane departure warning systems use sensors to track your Outback when traveling within marked lanes. If the system detects an unintentional drift, it provides gentle steering correction to help keep you centered in your lane. In addition, Subaru's pre-collision braking system alerts you of obstacles ahead and engages emergency brake support if necessary.
